MUSEI CAPITOLINI

Museo del Campidoglio
Piazza plebiscito n° 1, Roma |
"MUSEI CAPITOLINI A ROMA"

PALAZZO VENEZIA

Museo di Palazzo Venezia
Piazza plebiscito n° 1 |
"GALLERIA DI PALAZZO VENEZIA"
Palazzo Venezia, the first Renaissance palace built in Rome, surely is one of the buildings of Rome strangely signed by the history. The name derives from the first tenant, the Venitian cardinal Pietro Barbo who later became Pope with the name Paolo II, subsequently became the embassy of Venice in Rome during the Renaissance period, then it passed to French when Napoleon came to Italy at the end of eighteenth century (1797), then owned by the Austrian until the beginning of the First War World (1916) and finally was bought by Italian State and eternally remembered by Italians as here Mussolini used to talk to the crowd from its central balcony during fascism. In spite of its history Palazzo Venezia rarely becomes a must for all Rome's visitors and this is a real pity as here is kept an important collection of Renaissance paintings, wooden sculptures and some beautiful tapestries coming from every part of Europe.
Orari d'apertura: Daily from Tuesday to Sunday from 8.30 a.m. to 7.30 p.m. The box-office closes at 6.30 p.m. Closed on Monday and Jan 1st, May 1st, Dec 25th.>
