We will start with a tour of the Crypts and Catacombs. This vast network of tunnels dates back to the 2nd century AD. They were once a cemetery and a hideout for the first Christians in Rome also used for burials and celebrations.
The tour continues towards the ancient Basilica of San Martino ai Monti. The current church dates back to the Carolingian era but the remains of a 3rd century columned hall have been located underground. You will discover the relics of the Saints Artemio, Paolina and Sisinnio under the main altar and you will admire the magnificent frescoes painted by artists such asPietro Testa and Giannangiolo Canini.
You will conclude this tour with a visit to the Crypt of the Capuchins, known as the "Chapel of Bones". Here the Capuchin monks used the bones of 4000 of their brothers to decorate the walls and ceilings.
